Mark and Nick got their level 1 cert. 2 years ago today. If they haven't told you the story you should ask them. We've all been beginners at one point, what are some of the things you remember about when you first started CrossFit?!?

My first Crossfit workout was Angie and it took me 40 minutes as Rx'ed.
I remember a garage, two small guys and one ego that was WAY to big (mine)! A great start to a CrossFit lifestyle.
Now I see more brothers and sisters then I can count, people on my left and right, pushing their limits day in and day out. I love this place!
The heading says it all for us...Our 1st official WOD was FGB, and what a debacle that was...haha
John - that's the one you start with?!?...eewww...good for you for sticking with it after that..lol
E - Stacey and I were just looking through those pics yesterday!! What a fun story!! You're the man!!
I'd like to openly thank Mark and Stacey for accepting me into their family...you're the best!!
I started with these guys in April of this year and it's been great ever since. One of my first WOD,s I can remember Brett telling me I need to use more hip movement, then a few workouts later I remember Mark saying that, then Nick, then Justin.....
Wait, actually I heard that every workout HAHAHAHA! Guess I'm still working on that.
Regardless, I love Crossfit, and the OTG community is my home away from home. I found you guys right when I needed to make a big change in my life. I was horribly out of shape and pretty unhappy. Now I,m in such better condition then ever and everyday I look forward to a new WOD. Keep up the great work! You guys are the best!!!!!!
My first memory after starting CrossFit in March of this year was plain and simple ... WHAT THE F@CK ???
My body NEVER hurt so much after that first WOD ... run & med-ball cleans. But, ever since then, I KNOW I've improved and continue to do so.
I'll be part of this for a LONG time to come! My goal for 2010 is to beat either Mark or Nick in a WOD ... long way to go.
The best is Mark and Nick telling you to "actively rest." What the F does that mean?
My first memory of cross-fit is Mark's "intensity" speech, being totally psyched to do the baseline, then fighting as hard as I could not to puke afterwards. I knew I was getting myself into something more physically and mentally challenging than I had ever done before, but I couldn't wait to come back for more.
Three months later I still haven't met pukie, but I've been damn close many times and I know he's coming...waiting to strike when the moment is right.
my first crossfit experience...bloody hands!!...after experiencing that i dont know what possessed me to come back ..but thank god i did..and neq wod today..last time i wanted to die!..can't wait to tackle it again
Well idk if i can post everything here about this place without people getting pissed at me for clogging the blog ha But let's just say I've met the most inspirational and motivational group of friends while being here I've ever met anywhere else. Mark, Nick and Stacy already know how much I appreciate everything they've done and how much everything means to me so no need to go there lol Love making this a lifestyle and look forward to all of our prosperous years to come in the new buildings. We're all excited for you guys it's going to be awesome and a lot of hard work will finally pay off
A big thank you to everyone who is a part of our OTG community! We appreciate all your support and look forward to 2010!
FGB in Oakland will go down as the funniest (not during it obviously), hardest, most memorable WOD for me. Nick and I coughed up plasma and laughed all night...it was ridiculous.
Nick, you know how I feel my man...can't wait to see what the future holds!
Stacey, I appreciate all you do for us and the support you've given me...I couldn't or wouldn't want to do this without you.
Justin and Brett...thanks for everything you do for OTG...it doesn't get said enough.
And thank you to all of our family and friends that have supported us throughout this process. We appreciate it!
....now actively rest!!!!
I’m still pretty new, so every day is a crazy experience. It's kind of funny now, since Friday has come and gone. But I was thinking to myself. Gosh, at work I have been punched in the face, wrestled with the biggest, gotten into foot pursuits and tackled I don’t know how many people and I don’t even think twice about it. But… I cried when I couldn’t finish Friday’s wod. WTF:) Why would I subject myself to this? Ha ha. But I love it and couldn’t imagine going back to a plain old gym again. So you all are stuck with me.
In one year I went from the scrawniest guy in my crew to the most in shape one, by far. I'm absolutely prepared for any "oh shit" moment life can put in front of me. Funny what 40 minutes of total hell a week will do for you. That and I turned into the most competitive person, mostly with myself. I think if I played hopscotch it would get violent cause I'm not losing!
Congrats to all! Members and trainers. This is a great group to be associated with. Bro, u r the MAN! BALLS of STEEL! I wish you and our extended CF family only the best.
It is hard to believe we all get in our cars and drive to this establishment to subject ourselves to these things we call "WODS". I never undestood it until I did one and another and can't wait for the next!
Here's to the future....it will only get brighter @ OTG!
I think I am still in the "newbie" phase as its only been a month and a week BUT I am really really loving it and all the new people even if I usually cant lift my arms for days after the workouts. Major progress today - I feel awesome after yesterdays WOD. Thanks for all the support and I cant wait to do some unassisted pullups. I am a girl on a mission!
Mark/Nick - word on the street is Mainland Fitness in Linwood is closing Friday. Opportunity is abound...time to swoop in and pick up some clients for EHT. I'll spread the word: Crossfit.
I started Crossfit in August...the 10th to be exact. That was the day I came in for my one on one and got Mark's intensity speech, like everyone else did. My first couple of "real" workouts kicked my ass...BIGTIME!! i couldn't move!! I had never been so sore from a workout before...and these were only 15 min workouts!! By Oct I started going Unlimited. I, too, was a girl on a mission to do a pull up...yesterday I did 7...felt GREAT to put it up on the whiteboard!! :)
Tonight Nick asked us what we had wanted to get out of Crossfit and if it was meeting our goals an expectations...I must say that it has far surpassed my expectations. As much as I hated 65lb thrusters today, I think back to a time where I couldn't even lift 35lbs over my head. I love Crossfit and come back for more 4-5 days a week. I love the fact that I can see my improvements everyday...it's instant gratification for all the work I've put in so far.
Thank you to everyone for all that you do! I'm really happy to have met everyone, and I look forward to more fun ahead!!
My first WOD was Fran. I couldn't wait to see what I could do. That feeling grew...1 day a week, turned into that plus a drop in, which turned into 3 days. I know what will happen next.
I love hearing "3, 2, 1" and knowing there's a challenge ahead. It's my time to get pushed and coached.
I'm so glad I talked to Stacey last Spring :) I was looking for a little "feel-good kind of crazy." It has helped my other activities; especially jiu jitsu and running. CrossFit makes me feel like a kid...nervous and excited at the same time.
"Coach," Nick, Justin, Brett and Stacey, and fellow OTG-er's, thanks for the fun, support and encouragement! Looking forward to more great times! -"Slick 88" (Ha!)
I'm thankful that I now have the opportunity to teach others the things i've learned through my short journey thus far. Thanks mark & nick!
hahahaha my first Fran...theres a video of it on youtube (google "brett fran") that nick sliced up so that when ya watch it doesnt take the full 8:30 it took me to do....Watching it brings back memories of the early days!
All I have to say is that I'm the only person in OTG history to NOT do the baseline workout when signing up.
From that you might think that I didn't know what I was in for and you would be right. But, I soon found out what Crossfit was really about and I loved it.
Now, that I can't live without you guys, I have a back problem :( Doc, says I can't do any heavy lifting for a few weeks...ummm Mark, he also said that I'm never allowed to do burpees again! (okay, so that might be an exaggeration but hopefully you believed it)
my 1st day at OTG I remember being on the pull up bar for an hour, looking at my bloody hands that had like no skin left and asking Nick when I could come back.
I've been at OTG for a little less than two months and absolutely can't get enough. I also got Mark's intensity speech.....and he was spot on! I can't thank Nick, Mark and Justin enough for the support they have shown, it's much appreciated, more than you guys know!
I joined at a time where I needed something positive to focus on....and this has been the perfect solution. Looking forward to everything that OTG and all the great people I have met have to offer in the coming months/years.
Stoked!
I can't say enough great things either. When I first started, I really sucked, now I just suck less...a lot less but I am continuously improving. I have never thought that I could be so motivated to workout and that really is a tribute to the great group of trainers that we have. Enough good things can't be said about the inspiration and positive vibes they bring into the gym everyday.
This is the elusive type of training that I have been looking to do for years and got lucky that I stumbled across OTG. I look forward to more and more improvements cause this has become something more of an addiction than a "workout".
I think most of us at one point in our lives were athletes or participated in some sort of sport. When I first started going to the OTG, I was looking to get in better shape so that I can participate more competitively in the sports that I play...
What I didn't realize at the time was that Crossfit would become my sport
mine was, what the hell am I getting myself into????
oh, and also realizing NOT to skip workouts... I learned that the hard way after the wedding and the honeymoon!
My story is much like everyone else's. I couldn't stand another day on the treadmill, staring at a tv screen and being completely unmotivated to pick up a weight. I had heard about CF from Mike and had checked the mainsite from time to time to see if there was a box in my area. Then one sunny June day, Andrea and I were hanging out in our beach chairs, we were talking about how we hated going to the gym and needed something else. We went online and saw that OTG had recently opened in Williamstown. Perfect!! We set up our 1-1's and off we went.
At that time the intro was a 10 min AMRAP of Cindy (5 pull ups, 10 push ups, and 15 squats). I think I got in a little over 5 rds, was completely exhausted and couldn't wait to get back for another wod!
Like Joe, I neeeded something positive in my life then and certainly something that took my mind off of things for an hr...the treadmill at Island Fitness wasn't doing that!!
Since I've been with Mark, Stacy, Nick, Justin, Brett, etc from the practically the beginning, I can't say how proud I am of the progress they have made. In fact, its unbelievable and I couldn't more proud to have been here with all of them through it.
The trainers and Crossfit have changed my life in so many ways and thanking them never seems enough....but Thank You for all you've done for me!
