We will be having a 60-Day Paleo/PR Challenge starting Monday Jan 10, 2011 and finishing March 12, 2011. The PR Challange consists of a workout that is done on Monday, 1/10/11 at both boxes and repeated on Saturday, 3/12/11 in Williamstown to measure improvement.
The Paleo Challenge starts Monday 1/10/11 where we will take measurements (body fat % and lean muscle mass) and you will start a private and public log of your Paleo intake through a point system. It's $30 for the PR Challenge and $30 for the Paleo Challenge, but if you want to compete in both it's $50. Ca$h Prizes for both!! More details to follow!!
We will be holding a Paleo Seminar on Jan 8, 2011, the Saturday prior to the Challenge to help answer any questions on the in's and out's of Paleo. Time to be announced. Cost is $50.
The Paleo Challenge and the Paleo Seminar are great ways to help refine: your knowledge of quality food, be held accountable for what you're eating on a daily basis and to use the OTG Community as a support system to get you through your tough spots.
Let's eat well together!!

Looking forward to this Paleo challenge. If anyone has any shopping lists and/or menus, please share so I can start ramping up.
I know there maybe websites and articles to read, I'll be looking at those as well.
What I am really hoping for is a shopping list and recipes for lazy people like me. The reason I fall into the breakfast cereal and turkey sandwich for lunch routine is that I am lazy and have no time, and those are simple, easy, and fast options for my every day routine.
I think part of my success with this Paleo thing is going to be able to achieve a similar level of convenience that I enjoy now with my current eating habits.
Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Ditto
Absolutely loving all the nutrition talk. Can't wait to get my act together. Gimp, I'm in the same boat as you with the convenience thing. I have to get on a routine with getting myself to the store.
Stuck working at the restaurant all week. Hoping to get in Friday and Saturday!
Paul, and anyone else who would be interested. I was kicking around the idea with Nick about putting together a big "shopping day" with all of you.
Basically, deciding on a day or two throughout the month (preferrably a weekend I would assume) where we could get together and head to whole foods to help people with any questions or concerns that ya may have
Logistically it may be hard to do, but I was just kicking the idea around since I've seen this implemented at other boxes and it seems like a good start
Paul,
I guess your delivery of "lazy" went over much better than mine ... HAHA !!! I'll be sure to consult you prior to any future posts so my "message" is conveyed properly.
Enjoying my first cup of coffee with coconut milk...It is very good! Trying to make small changes now and excited to be on board for the challenge.
I am a coffee JUNKIE...
took michelles advice and tried a little protein powder in it. Easier to carry around than a can of coco milk.
Is everyone waiting til January to really start, from the sound of it I see a lot of you taking things out now! I like it!! : )
Ill bring in copies of recipes I have if any one is interested?
Joey O, that's a great idea. We don't necessarily have to have it to frequently, but it would be a great way to kick off the challenge.
I am not starting right now. I have Thanksgiving, a bunch of birthdays, a few Christmas parties, not to mention La Vigilia, so no, not Paleo right now :)
Go to itunes and listen to Robb Wolf's podcast, "The Paleo Solution". Awesome stuff dumbed down so even Chris can understand. His book is great too.
Anyone who is interested in trying to switch over to paleo should read the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. It is very informative and has a one month meal plan. The book and his website, robbwolf.com, are very good resources to utilize. On the main page, click the getting started today link and follow the quick start guide. Pretty simple... The meals he lists in the book are easy to make and are quite tasty. For those who say they don't have time and want to try this... You're gonna have to make time.
There are a LOT of haters out there who will talk shit to you about it, but who cares... Of course there are other things you can eat and perform at high level. Look at Andy Bolton, he has the heaviest deadlift in history... He's not paleo. I feel better when I eat this way. I'm not a nazi about it. In the end, I just want to improve my eating habits as they are the largest problem with my overall fitness. I think we are all striving to be healthier and more fit for more than a few reasons. We all wanna set PR's, but I wanna be able to get off the couch when I'm old. I want to be able to play with my kids if we are fortunate enough to be blessed with them. I don't want to end up like my uncle who has had more than 15 strokes, part of his foot amputated, and is now blind because of diabetes. Those are just some of my reasons and I'm damn sure you have yours.... Good luck to everyone who tries this "challenge."
Thanks Atlee ... I knew I could count on you !!!

“The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.” ~Bob Moawad

I sit here today with a heavy heart. A year ago today, my "Sensei" passed away. Also, a year ago today, I did my first official OTG wod. The irony, to lose so much yet gain so much.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am grateful for the years of guidance, wisdom & knowledge this amazing teacher shared with me. I am also grateful for OTG. Their vision/mission and unstoppable pursuit of excellence drives us all.
This morning was tough. Thanks Patty P. for being there!!!!

I'm up for shopping! I have wanted to get to whole foods...lessons and recipes welcomed! easy quick or able to prepare ahead I'm in! works better for schedules! Like trying to fit all this in during a work week... The only thing is I am scared about my coffee... I use truvia its from a plant(hehe) and organic fat free cream? coconut milk could try. Is the sweetner allowed? Maybe I will grow the plant and dunk the leaves in myself? does that work? I think I need help!

See ya tomorrow!
Joe O: great suggestion to go shopping together. Here's another idea..we all take turns cooking weekly meals for each other! I'll go last!
I was even thinking of organizing a Paleo Covered Dish Party held at one of the boxes where we could all try and swap recipes maybe? Just a thought.
Seriously, I love the enthusiasm on the blog about this the past few days! I find myself signing on to see what you are all thinking and saying about the upcoming challenge.
Maria, you're right! From the sound of things...ppl seem to be easing in now. I know that I find myself planning Paleo friendly meals now too and I keep reminding myself that it hasn't officially started yet. Maybe if we all "practice" a little bit before the seminar, we'll have realistic questions and information to share rather than starting super fresh.

I turn 45 this coming Tuesday...If you would have told me that I would be able to do half of the things I have done at CrossFit a year ago, I would have said you were crazy. The impact that this place has had on my life is beyond what I can put into words. All of you who make up what CrossFit is, should be very proud. You are a special group and I am glad to be a part of it. Most of all thanks to Mark and Nick...you guys just get IT....so with that said, bring it on this Tuesday cause I plan on crushing it.
