8 workouts is absolutely insane. The 2 runs, I think limits the big guys. Looking at the heavy lifts on the site, I don't think too many of the little guys are really at as big a disadvantage as the big guys are with the run. So I'm narrowing it down to speal and opt. I'll go with my gut and say Speal wins after watching him dominate everything until the last event last year. For the girls, I'll just pick the one closest to the men and say Tonya Wagner is gonna win. Just my 2 cents...

No one deserves to win more than speal. But I would be happy if any one of the guys who inspired me when I first started crossfit win...OPT, Speal, Pat Barber, Josh Everett.

By the way Jeff Tincher > Jeff Leonard!

And the max lift needs to be based on bodyweight. You can't compare a 210lb guy with a 135lb based purely on numbers. Make it lift / bodyweight

If any of those guys haven't been training in a broad sense, there dead! My moneys on Speal. That dude is sick. 136lbs, thats what most of those big guys weighed in grade school!

Zone Related Question...
I eat a lot of sandwiches for lunch. I know it is definitely not ideal. I tend to do better at dinner and the weekends.

My bread is Martin's Whole What Potato Bread. Is this breakdown correct:
< 1g Fat = < 1 Fat block

14g carb - 4g fiber = 10g = 1 Carb block

6g Protein = 1 Protein block

so, basically, 1 slice of bread is 1 block. 2 slices of bread is two blocks, so I need at least 3 additional blocks per meal to be in the zone.

One thing I have learned is that eating more veggies for carbs (read salads, broccoli) keeps you much fuller for much longer than the comparable high-density carbs.

This looks sick, I agree with Joe and two t's, looks like someone around 155 - 165 lbs could really jump out in front. (or Nick and Mark)!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Pat Barber has a real shot at this thing...he's my dark horse...

But I would love to see OPT get it done...can't get enough of that guy...what a competitor...and what a great attitude he has...humble

Teen Wolf said...

Paul,

7g of protein=1 block
1.5g of fat=1 block

Word of advice too, ween yourself off the bread asap. No more bread. Your veggies look good, try to mix in some fruit as well. Stick to berries more than others. Probably ask brett or nick or mark more than me, but I had the spare time.

pcleary said...

but I LOVE BREAD!!! I am weaning myself off high-density carbs (potatoes, pasta, crackers). Doing something else for lunch will be tough.

Baby steps. There's a lot I can be doing better, taking baby steps as to not overwhelm myself. Cutting back on high-density high GI carbs is one step. Eliminating caffeine is another (in week 2).

Teen Wolf said...

Well, Brett correct me if I'm wrong because you know more than me, but bread is horrible for you. Whole grains and such. Bread is high glycemic which causes spikes in your blood sugar. GET OFF BREAD haha but yeah baby steps. Sounds like you're on the right track man.

The games site let slip the 2nd workout for the games, and it looks sweet as hell. Heavy continuous deads, check out the vid.

sert11 said...

heavy deads, sweet, but after that run, not so much

My dark horse to win is Jeff Leonard!!!(he's been doing CrossFit less than a year)
But, I want OPT or Spealler to win..

Nice pick Mark - Pat Barber is a contender..

TT's - Tincher this...let's see which Jeff ends up with a higher finish..

brett said...

Tincher is a bad ass, put his stats up side by side with Leonard. Not even close! Not to mention the guy finished #5 last year. Think about this... he beat OPT and Speal.
Also Jeremy Thiel deserves should be up there to be watched, #3 in '08 and #6 in '07.

Well....then lets make it interesting? I'll put my money where my mouth is...

and Paul I have two thoughts....
Stop eating bread!
Keep drinking coffee!
Take all the effort your putting in to the whole quitting coffee thing and use it to quit bread. Your body will thank you when you start feeling and performing better! I'm serious.
My performance has taken a few noticeable jumps. The first was when I started sleeping more and making sleep a real priority. The second was when I went gluten free....stopped eating bread, pasta, etc. Unfortunately i've regressed with the sleep (theres just not enough hours in the day).

brett said...

Paul,
Let me address the zone question. Were you saying that your Whole What bread has 6g protein in it?
As much as it hurts me to even be talking about bread, but bread is only counted as carb blocks. You don't count the protein in it. Same thing with stuff like nuts, peanut butter. Don't count the carbs/pro in them. Give ya more on that later...

#1 - I shouldn't be posting because I have been a ghost at the OTG for awhile but...

#2 - I have lost close to 45 lbs since starting CrossFit and the Zone/Paleo Diet soooo...

#3 - Paul, one thing I learned to help you with the diet is from some Paleo info. I saw, if you couldn't get it or it eat 10,000 yrs. ago, then don't eat it today. Also the experts can correct me if I'm wrong, but an easy guide is: LEAN MEATS AND CHICKEN, FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, NUTS AND SEEDS.............................
and an occasional frosty beverage ;-)

I'm hoping to see a lot of Jolie Gentry, Jocelyn Secondi or Lauren Pryor,
heres a marketing idea,
get them to come to the new site to help cut the ribbon when it opens... just a suggestion.

WayneEEEEE said...

Oh and since when does Crossfit involve Poison Oak????

Jim Longo said...

My money is on Chris Spealer, that dude is insane. I just can't see how anyone with a strength to body weight ratio can lose. Did I say he's insane?

To touch on Paul's question and Brett's comments. I've been doing basically what Brett posted and I have been seeing pretty good results. This weekend doesn't count though because I went out of my mind with the ice cream. But seriously I used to be like Paul and eat sandwiches for lunch. But what I started doing, and my wife thinks I'm a whack job for it, is I still have the sandwich but I do so with no bread.

How do I do that, well I take the meat, say turkey, and I roll it up in some provolone cheese and there you have it a great sandwich with no bread. Try it, it's pretty good.

Now I missed yesterdays workout due to lack of sleep. Whenever I shift from evenings to days the first week is rough. Anyway I did the heavy thrusters and I have to say this was by far the worst WOD I have experienced thus far.

It was horrible, my form sucked, the weight sucked (actually the weight doesn't matter because the form is so bad, I was having trouble with 45lbs). I wanted to quit after the first set, but I didn't. Here is what I did with it.

100x3, 105x2, 105x2, 105x3, 110x3

Maybe the weight wasn't to bad but oh my god the form as bad bad bad! Mark, Nick you would have told me to stop and use a lighter wieght like 45lbs. Anyway I felt like I accomplished nothing so I threw in 5 rounds of 5 pull ups and 5 ring dips. The thing that made this one so rough was the wrist pain. I just had such a hard time transitioning from the front squat to the press.

Ok I'm done bitchin. One of these days I show up again.

It's on - the 'Jeff Bet' is in effect - avocado egg rolls on the line. Anyone else want in?!!? Cheesecake Factory here we come!

Let's go Leonard!!

Wayne you're hilarious, your angle never changes..lol

Congrats Dom! - miss you.

Paul - Just get over it and cut bread out. It's only as hard as you make it.

WayneEEEEE said...

I'm in I'll bet you jeff dosnt win

Higher Order Living said...

The "Jeff Bet" -
Leonard has to place higher than Tincher.

WayneEEEEE said...

Tincher is older than me,
Gotta go with Tincher....

Higher Order Living said...

I figured you'd say that. So are you still in?

WayneEEEEE said...

In what???
yes, whats the bet???

If he's into the games as he is his "patches" he is a shoe in:)

Higher Order Living said...

The "Jeff Bet" Prize -
Avocado Egg Rolls at the Cheesecake Factory - we can side bet for some dessert!

Teen Wolf said...

I'll take Tincher (-5) spots. Tincher has to win by 6 spots. 5 spots is a push and we get nothing...whos in?

sert11 said...

This is a rest day, you guys need a life! I agree with Joe by the way!

Mark said...

Wayne, you may hold the prize for the funniest damn thing EVER posted on this blog!

LMAO!!!!....Poison Oak!!! Hilarious...

DOM, get over it and get back to the dojo...at least stop by on Fridays and empty the trash cans...

Teen Wolf said...

yeah dom, what gives....im starting to think you just took me for my dvd and got out! haha...

brett said...

Nick...You wouldn't bet me a full course dinner, but now you'll do "side bets" for dessert??!?!

We can't have this. Any Jeff bet action goes through me...

Ooooh and I just watched the video with tincher...ironic he's featured tomorrow.

brett said...

Mark...Pat Barber is NOT a dark horse. lmao

....A "dark horse" is a term used to describe a little-known person or thing that emerges to prominence...

Like two hours later I was scratchin my head thinking about that...

Higher Order Living said...

Eric always agrees with Joe - follower..lol

That's right...side bets for dessert...The "Jeff Bet" is an open 'bet,' we started it, but it can GROW. I intend on having at least an entire adam's cheesecake owed to me by sunday night (along w/ the delectable egg rolls, of course.)

WayneEEEEE said...

What r the side bets???

Higher Order Living said...

Side Bet 1: If Tincher beats Leonard - dessert at CCF.
Side Bet 2: If Bionic doesn't make top ten - entree at CCF.
Side Bet 3: If OPT doesn't make it to Sunday (w/o training for the games) - Mojito at CCF.

Take your pick (or pick them all) - you first Wayne?...

WayneEEEEE said...

Which one is Bionic?
and why is he called that?

OPT didnt train?

brett said...

thats dark horse crap...

You turned down the full meal!

I hope you buy someone a full 9 course meal.

WayneEEEEE said...

K,
I say Bionic won't finish in top 10(if your names not Lee Majors you can't call yourslef Bionic)
Joe its from a TV sho from the 70's called the 6 million dollar man.

I also like MIR, GSP, and Henderson

Teen Wolf said...

Wayne keep up the short shots man. I'll take Lesnar, GSP, Henderson no contest.
